It is crazy how my view of the good 'ole Dollar Bill has changed in the last several months. In my "former life," as I like to call it, I would spend $1 here, and $1 there without giving much thought to it. Sure, we all KNOW that all those little purchases add up, but does it really stop us? Because, at the time of purchase, it just really doesn't seem that bad to buy those little things. I was thinking of a few things that I would have spent $1 on give or take without blinking......a pack of gum, a fountain drink, the Target dollar aisle (love it!), a candy bar, and the list goes on. But now, in my "NEW LIFE," now that I know how much stuff that I can get for $5-10 with all kinds of deals, I have become quite miserly with that dollar bill! My poor husband had to endure my lecturing when I found out that he stopped at CVS the other day and spent $7.47 on 2 Energy Shots and a Gatorade! This is the same husband who went to CVS the week before, and when the cashier asked him if he had a CVS card, he said, "No, but if my wife was here, she would clean you out and not spend a dime!" The cashier just laughed. (Note: I have since supplied my husband with a CVS card.) The "new life" does not make me feel depressed or limited like it can sometimes to people on a budget. Instead, I feel this unbelievable sense of awakening and freedom! I look at those "dollars saved" as "dollars earned" to be applied towards vacations, making memories, and long term financial freedom. I actually feel much wealthier because I feel CONTROL over my money!
Are you spending $1-$5 on simple unnecessary purchases everyday? That's $30-$150 a month! Even if you cut back on those purchase a little, your savings could be great!
